"If I were a medical czar, I would try to get every American a health coach."

- Otis Brawley, MD, American Cancer

Society chief medical and scientific officer, on ways to manage nonmedical disparities in cancer outcomes.

Every day 7,600 people die from dietary-related diseases.

Diabetes, cancer, heart disease... the misery mounts every minute.

Obesity and related diseases are costing our country in excess of 190 billion dollars every year.

We weren't always FAT like this...

Obesity rates in the 1960's through the mid-1970's remained fairly steady, and then all of a sudden around 1980 something really strange happened.

Just take a look at the chart--->

What in the world happened to cause this drastic spike?

In 1980 the USDA released a short 20-page booklet called "Nutrition and Your Health: Dietary Guidelines for Americans."

Inside the pages of this booklet were outlined the guidelines to "maintain good health", and knowing what we now know, it did almost the exact opposite.

Here's just a couple:

  • "Avoid too much fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol" (# 3 in the booklet) and

  • "Eat foods with adequate starch and fiber" (# 4).

The chart shows the rise in obesity coincides perfectly with the birth of the "Low Fat" diet.

Americans took the USDA's advice to heart and switched to "healthy" margarine, shortening, and chemical and calorie-laden "health foods"—and millions have had their lives cut short (or ended) because of this agency advice.

The truth is emerging — not all fats and cholesterol are bad.

Times have changed, so should we.

Give Yourself Permission to Heal......

Why are Health coaches so important for whats happening in the medical system today?

"The US spends over $2 trillion/yr on healthcare, $150 on obesity alone!

Doctors are not trained to actually treat most of the problems that a patient goes into see the doc for!

[The current] Model of medicine is Crisis Care ----  This is thus that doctors are trained to treat acute medical emergencies, surgical emergencies, trauma, acute illness.  They are not trained to treat LifeStyle diseases, chronic diseases.  YET… 90% of doctor visits are actually due to lifestyle problems, stress, diet.

So all this money is spent And we

still have epidemics of autoimmune diseases and asthma and acne. And that’s just the ‘A’s … you can go on… heart disease, diabetes, obesity, etc.  The problems that are out there today are just not being dealt with.

Enter Health Coaches [who uniquely] fit this niche [in public health] perfectly"
